Effect of Filler and Binder Contents on Air Voids in Hot-Mix Asphalt for Road Pavement Construction

چکیده

Filler and binder make up a small proportion of bituminous mixtures, hence they are considered as important ingredients mixtures. Sometimes due to equipment error during production, some mixtures retain extra or reduced amount filler compared the design mix formula. It is thought that poor performance result inadequate proportioning materials use inappropriate compaction tools. This study was intended appreciate influence contents in relation durability asphalt used crushed stone passing 0.075 mm sieve, while 35/50 penetration grade. Several trial mixes were prepared following Ugandan specifications for Road Bridge Works, Asphalt Institute MS-2. Marshall method used, studying volumetric properties with an average stability value 22.3 kN, flow 3.7 mm, VA 4.4%, VFB 69.3%, VMA 14.2%. Also, assess its at optimum done. Compaction done using Automatic Impact Hammer, Vibrating Superpave Gyratory compactor aimed simulating secondary by traffic assessing retained air voids which 3.3%, 1.3%, 0.7% respectively. Generally, when vibrating hammer gyratory recommended compaction, coarser would be best choice.

Evaluating the Performance of Hot Mix Asphalt with Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement and Heavy Vacuum Slops as Rejuvenator

Due to the high price of crude oil, and consequently asphalt binder, the application of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) in pavement technology is widely considered. The present paper is the result of a laboratory research which was carried out to investigate the effects of adding a rejuvenating agent to Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) with RAP. To this end, test samples comprised of Aged Asphalt Binder ...

Laboratory Evaluation and Pavement Design for Warm Mix Asphalt

For many years, the asphalt industry has been aware of the energy savings and environmental benefits inherent in cold mix or warm mix asphalt technologies. Environmental awareness and the need for improved energy efficiency has increased rapidly over the past few years and extensive measures such as the air pollution reduction targets set by the European Union under the Kyoto Protocol have enco...

Effects of Warm-mix Asphalt Additives on Asphalt Mixture Characteristics and Pavement Performance

The primary objective of this research is to evaluate the feasibility of several WMA mixtures as potential asphalt paving mixtures for Nebraska pavements. To that end, three well-known WMA additives (i.e., Sasobit, Evotherm, and Advera synthetic zeolite) were evaluated. For a more realistic evaluation of the WMA approaches, trial pavement sections of the WMA mixtures and their HMA counterparts ...
